20130527 chefmyself-03The ChefMySelf projects’ main goal is to develop a customizable, open and extensible (ICT) service ecosystem built around an automatic cooking solution to support elderly people preparing meals and maintaining healthy eating habits. A food processor with an accessible interface, specially tailored for the elderly, will encourage them to self-care, accordingly to their particular nutrition requirements. At the same time a social network, focused on the topic of nutrition and aging in good health, will become a tool to motivate them to be active and maintaining existing social relationships and creating new ones.

The main focus is on increasing the motivationof elderly people for a healthy diet. Firstly by supporting them to eat healthy food and secondly by performing activities through participation in virtual social networks. The cooking activities directly support their eating habits, avoiding nutritional problems related to aging.

Duration: 24 months

Started on: 1st of June 2013    End date: 31st of May 2015

How is ChefMySelf being implemented?

Cloud Services store all relevant information about the recipes and particular users, offering the virtual social network that enables elderly people not only  to share the recipes with other participants, but also to comment on recipes and send messages to other elderly users or caregivers.

20130527 chefmyself-04User interfaces:  (1) a set-top box connected to the users’ TV and (2) a tablet computer.  The 1st device will allow to take advantage of the system through a remote control - mechanisms well-known to the elderly users.

The 2nd  device will provide seniors with assistance while cooking: creation of recipes will be possible and a virtual keyboard will be offered to send messages/comment recipes. Audio recordings will be available with the tablet, as they are more convenient to use for seniors who might not be familiar with using a keyboard.Personal cooking assistant: a common food processor device enhanced with an innovative assistant using Wi-Fi will guide the elderly during the meal preparation according to the previously chosen recipe in the most automated way as possible.

ChefMySelf is a scalable system that will allow other devices to be connected by a public API (Application Programming Interface) offered by the cloud component, e.g., a wireless scale offering a weight control service to the elderly could be incorporated into the system.
